Front cover final

I changed my front cover by discarding the text boxes, this help the back ground stand out, i also changed the colour scheme, i change this because NME a similar magazine had a lot of colours going on , this made the magazine look more informal and free flowing.

The contents basically shows the reader what is the magazine , compared with my draft i spaced out the images and the text so it is more visible. I also added more pictures so some articles will stick out on the page.

My double page spread is a question and answer article, it is based on an up and coming artist and his current success on his latest album.On the first page of the article i used an image to represent the character in the article, the image takes up the whole page. However i created  a small fact file on the character.

Image manipulation

The photographs i used in my magazine are very simply manipulated, for this picture i basically cropped the image to make the overall image smaller, this allowed me to get the image shot i wanted. This image i used was in my double page contents, i cropped it so you could see the expressions on the models face.

For the preliminary task i choose to add several colours of text, i thought that the target audience would have liked the text because it is not boring, it create a sense of excitement to the sixth form magazine.

I decided to take more photos, to add more variety to my magazine, it would allow me to appeal to more audiences and it will make it look more authentic. Some of the photos i previously posted i did not use because i felt that they did not fit with the type of magazine that i am trying to make.

Magazine - Model, Props and Loaction

Magazine

Model – For my model I used a school student in my sixth form because he reads indie magazines, listens to indie music and dresses to the indie style. The readers of my magazine would easily be able to relate to his dress sense and the music.

Props – In the magazine I used a guitar in my images so the reader and target audience could relate his face to music, he is an up and coming artist so people wouldn’t be able to put the name to the face, so the guitar shows the audience that Jack O’Connor is a musician.

Location- The location I used was my sixth form, the reason I chose this place because it is easy to access and it was easy for my models to meet me there, it also has some places in the school , like the outside which could be related to the types of places indie people meet.

Research into Similar Magazines

NME Front Cover

The NME magazine is a well-known music magazine, the magazine uses many conventions which I will use in my final magazine. The reason I choose an indie magazine is because I like the music and also I like the layout and the articles within them. This magazine has a lot subtitle, puff, pugs and inside content on the front cover, with the subtitles and images it uses a wide range of colours to make the heading stand out from the images. This I where I would like to improve my front cover, I choose to do a similar magazine to NME however, it is not looking like a magazine which would be found in a newsagents or a super market. To make my front cover better and more professional I will need to change the colours I used. In my Front cover I used dim and not so bright colours; this makes my magazine look very dull and is the opposite from the magazine above. I have also used a lot of blocking of text which makes my magazine look like unprofessional; it defies the conventions of the NME.

NME Contents

The NME contents page is also very colour full, In my magazine I have kept the same colour scheme throughout the entire magazine. I will need to change this because my target audience thought that it would be better if I used a colour scheme however the colours are minimal and wouldn’t make it stand out. I used blocking text on my front cover but I will be looking to use blocking in the content like this NME page, it is easily visible with the heading and the change of colour to the page number and the brief description of the page. I feel I need to also change the text used because time new roman is to formal and is the opposite to the magazine I’m trying to create. However my use of image I feel was in the right location and it shows the main article I will be writing about which will attract the audience to the article.
